Wroath will join Wincanton from LSG Sky Chefs, the airline catering division of Lufthansa, no later than the end of October, the UK company said. He is chief operating officer for North America at LSG.
Colman, CEO since August 2015, told the board he wanted to step down, prompting a search for a replacement, Wincanton said. He will stay on the board until Wroath arrives.
Wincanton is the UK’s biggest third-party logistics company, designing and running supply chains for retailers and other companies. Before joining LSG four years ago, Wroath worked in logistics for Switzerland’s Kuehne & Nagel and Scottish & Newcastle.
Chairman Martin Read said: "We are delighted to have appointed a candidate of James's calibre and look forward to welcoming him to the board. He has deep experience in logistics and the broader business services environment."
Read thanked Colman for helping rebuild Wincanton’s financial strength and making earnings more reliable. Colman was finance director before he became CEO.
