Wizz Air passenger numbers slide almost 60% in September

Budget European airline Wizz Air published traffic figures for September on Monday morning, revealing that passenger figures were down almost 60% year-on-year.

Wizz Air said booked passengers last month were 58.9% lower than they were a year earlier at 1.56m, while capacity shrunk 39.9% to 2.42m. Load factor dropped 29.9 points to 64.6%.
On a rolling 12 month basis, passengers were down 35.6% at 24.41m, while capacity was 27.3% lower at 29.51m and load factor contracted 10.7 points to 82.7%.
The FTSE 250-listed firm did continue to grow its network throughout September, announcing a new base in Catania, Italy with two based aircraft and five new routes across Romania, Moldova and Germany.
Wizz also expanded its fleet thanks to the addition of two brand new Airbus A320neo aircraft, taking its total fleet to 132 aircraft.
As of 0855 BST, Wizz Air shares were up 0.76% at 3,192.0p.
