Carnival's AIDA to run weekly autumn Italy cruises from October

The new seven-day itinerary departs from Civitavecchia near Rome and travels to Palermo and Catania in Sicily, Naples and La Spezia. In Rome, an overnight stay is planned. The voyages will run until November 28.
Carnival said its company-designed AIDA health and safety program would be implemented on all cruises, including a free Covid-19 test, regular temperature measurements for guests and crew, physical distancing and increased disinfection measures.
The cruise giant on Tuesday announced a near $3bn quarterly loss, but said bookings were currently at the “higher end of historical curves” for holidays in the second half of next year.
Most of its global fleet remains in harbour with cruises suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the corporation said that were signs of recovery and that demand for cruise holidays was back to 2018 levels.
It paused all operations in March, after coronavirus broke out on several of its ships and implicated Carnival in the global spread of Covid-19. Passengers on its Diamond Princess were stuck in their cabins in the early days of the pandemic while the Ruby Princess is believed to have been a major factor in the spread of Covid-19 to Australia.
The firm said it was planning to dispose of another 12 less-efficient ships, having put six up for sale this year. Sales netted $940m to offset the third-quarter losses.
