ITM said on Wednesday that its new partnership with ScottishPower Renewables would help the country achieve its target of net-zero by 2045.
The partnership's first project, Green Hydrogen for Glasgow, was designed to provide carbon-free transport and clean air for communities across the city, which wants to become the first net-zero city in the UK.
A proposed a green hydrogen production facility will be located on the outskirts of Glasgow and operated by BOC, with wind and solar power produced by ScottishPower Renewables being used to operate a 10-megawatt electrolyser, delivered by ITM Power, that will supply hydrogen to the commercial market within the next two years.
Chief executive Graham Cooley said: "This project provides the opportunity to fulfil Scotland's rich potential for the simultaneous decarbonisation of power and transport fuel. ITM Power is proud to be participating in this project with our strategic partners.
"The project and the 10MW electrolyser is subject to a memorandum of understanding at this stage and ITM Power will make a further announcement regarding the final details of deployment."
As of 0920 BST, ITM shares had shot up 7.77% to 256.50p.
