FTSE 250 movers: Provident Financial rallies; Cineworld slides
London’s FTSE 250 was steady at 15,866.75 in afternoon on Monday.
Doorstep lender Provident Financial was the standout gainer on the index. Provident announced at the end of March that it was pulling its forward guidance and cancelling its dividend due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We expect both our credit issued and collections performance to be adversely impacted during this period of uncertainty," it said at the time, adding that it was too early to quantify the potential financial impact.
Rank Group was higher even after the casino operator said it would not pay its next dividend and that about 7,000 of its UK workers have been furloughed under the government's Covid-19 job retention programme.
Rank also provided an update on trading and Shore Capital pointed to an acceleration in digital revenues in the three months to the end March and the fact that Stride returned to growth in the period, "as it continues its roadmap to create a meaningful digital business".
Cineworld and pub chain Mitchells & Butlers were the worst performers amid expectations that pubs, restaurants and cinemas will be the last venues to reopen once lockdown measures begin to be lifted.
