US wholesale inventories dip even as retailers race to replenish stocks

Company inventories at the wholesale level slipped last month, despite brisk stockpiling by retailers.

According to the Department of Commerce, in seasonally adjusted terms, the volume of wholesale inventories dipped at a month-on-month pace of 0.1% in September to stand at $643.8bn.
That left them 4.5% below their year earlier level.
Economists at Barclays had forecast a 0.4% on the month rise in wholesale inventories.
Within retail however, they jumped by 1.6% on the month to hit $607.0bn yet they were down by 9.1% from a year ago.
