In the first three weeks of March, average generation of the MeyGen project in Scotland was sufficient to power the equivalent of 1250 homes.
The AIM-listed company said the power performance of the turbines had exceeded the contractual output guarantees, putting the project on track to achieve capacity factors significantly in excess of 40%.
Drew Blaxland, director of turbines and engineering services at Atlantis, said initial data analysis showed the AR1500 turbine was producing at least 4% more energy than the guaranteed contractual baseline.
He anticipated it would improve further as more data was captured
The three turbines from Andritz Hydro Hammerfest (AHH), which were installed between November 2016 and January this year, would now undergo onshore inspection to allow AHH to implement system enhancements.
The turbines would then be redeployed in the next available tidal window.
The MeyGen project entered operation in November 2016 to provide electricity to the National Grid. It was awarded full Ofgem accreditation as a 5Roc project last month.
AHH managing director Rudolf Bauernhofer said: "We've identified some improvements based on the 250MWh of energy generated in the initial period of operations and we are working to implement these to ensure we get the best out of the turbines for years to come."
At 13:01 GMT, shares in Atlantis Resources were up 0.52% to 57.80p.
