FTSE 250 movers: Tui shoots higher; easyJet flies lower
London’s FTSE 250 was up 0.3% at 20,540.11 in afternoon trade on Monday.
Travel company Tui shot higher after its chief executive said he expects trading to return to normal this summer.
Gold miners Centamin and Hochschild shone as gold prices rallied.
Hussein Sayed, chief market strategist at FXTM, said multiple factors are likely to continue lending support to gold in the upcoming months.
"The pandemic will not disappear in a matter of weeks with tougher lockdowns also expected as Covid cases continue to rise. Hence central banks will need to keep policy loose by expanding their balance sheets. And given we are starting 2021 with extraordinarily rich valuations in equity markets, gold is a must-have asset in portfolios," he said.
"I think it is only a matter of time before we cross back above $2,000 and I won't be surprised if new highs are recorded in the first quarter of 2021."
Budget airline easyJet flew lower after Citigroup downgraded the stock to ‘sell’ from ‘neutral’ and cut the price target was to 650p from 750p.
