FTSE 250 movers: Carnival cruises lower; Capita surges
London’s FTSE 250 was down 0.6% at 17,583.50 in afternoon trade on Monday.
Carnival was under the cosh amid ongoing worries about a second wave of Covid-19 infections and after the company said it was extending the operational pause of its cruises in North America until the end of September due to the virus outbreak.
On the upside, outsourcer Capita surged to the top of the index after announcing late on Friday that it is preparing to sell off its education software business.
Pub groups Mitchells & Butlers and Wetherspoon were high risers amid expectations that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce on Tuesday that pubs can reopen on 4 July and that the 2 metre social distancing rule will be relaxed to 1 metre.
Gold miner Centamin racked up solid gains as gold prices rose to a one-month high.
