FTSE 100 movers: Prudential falls again; Ocado gains
London’s FTSE 100 was down 1.4% at 6,432.30 in afternoon trade on Friday.
Engine maker Rolls-Royce retreated, while insurer Prudential was down for the second day running after it announced on Thursday that it was planning to demerge its US business and considering a $3bn capital raise.
Compass Group fell after an institutional investor sold around 8m shares in the catering company.
Reuters reported late on Thursday that an unnamed investor was looking to sell the shares at around 12.9p. Traders said earlier that the share sale was carried out at 13p each.
JD Sports was on the back foot after saying it was "disappointed" that nearly a third of its shareholders had voted against its remuneration report at the annual meeting in July. JD said it will carry out "a wide ranging review" of its remuneration practices this year and "increase the level of engagement on these issues still further" with its shareholders and key stakeholders.
Going the other way, Just Eat Takeaway and Ocado, which have benefited from Covid restrictions and lockdowns, were among the top gainers on the index.
Polymetal was also up after its full-year production beat forecasts, although it also warned over higher costs.
