FTSE 100 movers: Compass boosted by upgrade; JD Sports out of fashion
London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.5% at 6,670.76 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.
Education publisher Pearson was the standout gainer on the index, while catering group Compass was boosted by an upgrade to ‘neutral’ from ‘underperform’ at Exane.
Reckitt Benckiser was in the red after saying late on Monday that it will withdraw a $1.4bn claim against opioid addiction treatment maker Indivior, which has agreed to pay the consumer goods giant $50m to end a legal battle related to a US probe into opioid addition.
JD Sports Fashion was also weaker after the retailer confirmed it is exploring additional funding options as it looks to increase its flexibility "to invest in future strategic opportunities", and said this may involve a non pre-emptive equity placing.
The retailer, which was responding to recent press speculation that it was exploring an equity capital raise, said a further announcement will be made as and when appropriate.
Rolls-Royce was down but well off earlier lows, after the engine maker lowered its forecasts for 2021 engine flying hours and said it expects a higher cash burn on the back of short-term market uncertainty caused by new variants of Covid-19 and enhanced travel restrictions.
