Greek banks will reportedly open Thursday for pension payments
Greek banks will reportedly open 850 branches on Thursday for the payment of pensions, though they will remain shut for other business all week.
Reuters cited a Greek government official as saying that if banks continued to be supported by the European Central Bank's Emergency Liquidity Assistance, a current daily limit of €60 at cash machines may be increased.
"Bank branches will open earlier than Monday," an official told a news briefing, later clarifying that it was only for pension payments. "There is an effort to open them on Thursday."
Greek banks will be closed this week ahead of a referendum on 5 July on the bailout plan, as Athens imposes capital controls in a bid to prevent the country’s banking system from collapsing.
