US weekly jobless claims tick higher
Jobless claims in the States ticked higher over the latest reference week but remained near multi-year lows.
Initial unemployment claims rose by 2,000 to reach 234,000 over the week ending on 19 August, according to the Department of Labor.
Economists had forecast a reading of 235,000.
Meanwhile, the four-week moving average retrated by 2,750 to 237,750.
In parallel, secondary unemployment claims, those which are not filed for the first time and referencing the week to 12 August were unchanged at 1.954m.
