Fed's Mester calls time on interest rate hikes
One of the most 'hawkish' rate-setters at the US central bank called 'time' on the Federal Reserve's campaign of interest rate hikes.
In an interview with US broadcaster CNBC, the president of the Federal Reserve bank of Cleveland, Loretta Mester, said she wanted to take the time "to actually evaluate how the economy is going" before making a judgement on whether further hikes are needed.
Nevertheless, her underlying view of the American economy was positive.
"I think we are in a good spot," she said.
Hence, she reportedly went on to add that: "If we don't see inflation picking up and we see the labor market staying reasonably strong from where we are now that may tell us we're not neutral."
