Trump company to invest £150m in expansion of Scottish golf resort
Donald Trump’s real estate company plans to further invest £150m in his golf resort in northeast Scotland.
The US President’s company submitted plans to the Aberdeenshire Council to spend the money on building 500 homes, 50 vacation cottages, a sports center adjacent to the golf resort and an equestrian space along with other leisure facilities. The new development will be known as The Trump Estate.
The organisation claimed 2,000 jobs will be supported during the construction phase, and nearly 300 permanent jobs would come after completion.
The Trump Organisation invested £100m in the first phase of development and has pledged £750m of investment in total.
Trump owns two courses in Scotland and has met criticism over the years from the Scottish government, local residents and environmentalists.
Both resorts have reported losses and the company has had to offer loans to keep them afloat. Losses at Trump Turnberry in western Scotland more than doubled to £17.6m in 2016 and widened to £1.4m at the course in Aberdeenshire.
Eric Trump, the US president’s son, who is in charge of the Trump Organisation, said in a statement: “Initial interest to our plans have been incredible and, subject to detailed planning approval, we are aiming to break ground next year.”
