Messaging service WhatsApp suffers major outage
Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp suffered a major outage on Friday morning, preventing millions of users across the globe from using the app for around half-an-hour.
Those attempting to send or receive messages through the service were unable to do so during that period, but the issue appears to have been resolved.
Whilst the issue seems to be more widespread across Europe, there were service problems reported across the world on Friday morning.
As well as the smartphone app, computer-based service WhatsApp Web was also affected in what appears to be a problem with the company’s servers.
According to service checker Down Detector, the outage occurred around 7am BST, but the majority of users have now been able to return to their messages.

Facebook provided an update on its performance during the third-quarter on Thursday, revealing that its revenues and profits were up 50% and 79%, respectively, with both metrics coming in well ahead of analysts’ estimates.
“Advertisers keep flocking to Facebook as there was a 16% jump in user ship levels on the year. A clear majority of adverts that last up to 15 seconds long are being watched to the end - this is likely to keep advertisers coming back,” said CMC Markets’ David Madden.
