London attack: Police name fourth victim; make 2 'significant' arrests
Police have named the fourth victim of Wednesday's terror attack in Westminster as Leslie Rhodes, from the London suburb of Streatham.
Rhodes was hit by the car driven by Khalid Masood, who killed two others on Westminster Bridge before entering the Carriage Gates of parliament and stabbing police constable Keith Palmer to death.
Masood was shot dead at the scene.
Metropolitan Police anti-terror chief Mark Rowley added said two more "significant arrests" had been made in connection with the incident in which 50 people were now reported as injured, two of them in critical condition.
On Thursday police arrested eight people on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. Raids took place in Wales, Brighton, London and Birmingham.
The new arrests were made overnight on Thursday in the West Midlands and north-west England. Nine people were now in custody after a woman was released on bail.
In the aftermath of the incident police were trying to piece together Masood's past. So far they had established he was born Adrian Russell Ajao in Kent on Christmas Day in 1964 and changed his name after converting to Islam.
Masood had a previous convictions for assault, grievous bodily harm, possession of offensive weapons and public order offences over a period of 20 years, and had spent time in jail, though not for terrorist-related offences.
“Our investigation focuses on [Masood’s] motivation, his preparation and his associates,” Rowley said at a briefing on Friday.
“While there’s still no evidence of further threats, you’ll understand our determination is to whether he acted totally alone inspired by terrorist propaganda or if others have encouraged supported or directed him.”
He added that searches were continuing at five addresses, with 16 property searches having been completed and 2,700 items seized.
