Block Commodities makes two appointments to scientific advisory team
Block Commodities announced the appointments of professors Justin Stebbing and Andrew Garner to its scientific advisory team on Thursday.
The NEX-traded firm said Stebbing was joining the team as chair, and would play a central role in helping the board to “identify and unlock” suitable investment opportunities in the cannabidiol (CBD) wellness and medicinal cannabis markets.
It added that the team was further strengthened by the appointment of Garner, who was joining as a “highly respected” pharmaceutical and medical research expert.
Together with the existing members, Dr Frank Ambrosio and Dr Olusola Idowu, the scientific advisory team was reportedly working with partners to develop pilot studies, to establish the efficacy of proprietary compounds treating a number of conditions.
With the addition of professors Stebbing and Garner, Block Commodities said it was “confident” that it had assembled a “world-class team of experts” in the evaluation and development of medicines, and the application of cannabis for health and wellness.
The company said it was aiming to be a market leader in CBD research and cultivation, as well as a manufacturer of efficacious products of the highest consistency and quality.
“Following the company's general meeting on 27 December, the shareholders approved a new investment strategy to operate in the medicinal cannabis, CBD wellness and hemp sectors,” said chief executive officer Ian Tordoff.
“I am delighted to welcome Professor Stebbing and Professor Garner to our scientific advisory team to develop and drive Block's ambitions in these markets.”
Tordoff said it was aiming to create over-the-counter products for consumers who wanted access to the highest quality CBD products appropriate to their circumstances.
“The scientific advisory team is essential to the business in the shaping of research and product development, which underpin our commercial goals.
“We are all looking forward to working closely together in the coming months.”
