Samsung Electronics chip production back at near-normal levels
Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday that production at its US chip plant in Texas had returned to near-normal levels during the previous week.
Maintaining production levels has been impossible after more than a month of disruptions due to bad weather in mid-February that forced temporary shutdowns.
This has exacerbated a global chip shortage that has affected tech and automobile companies. Many of these firms have been forced to cut their production forecasts until the supply of semiconductor chips returns to normal.
Samsung didn’t state when production would be fully back to normal.
Qualcomm and Samsung logic chips account for about 65% of the monthly production at the latter’s chip plant.
The disruption is expected to hurt production of smartphones globally over the April to June period by about 5%, said Reuters.
