FTSE 250 movers: Synthomer slips, Centamin shines
London's FTSE 250 was lower by 0.89% at 20,516.21 in afternoon trade on Tuesday, with Synthomer leading the index downward.
Elsewhere, miners were largely in the red as comments from US President Donald Trump sparked trade war fears, with Kaz Minerals and Ferrexpo both featuring in the top fallers.
Aston Martin retreated after Goldman cut the stock to ‘neutral’, while transport operator Go-Ahead Group fell after analysts at Canaccord cut their rating on the stock from 'buy' to 'hold'.
Analysts at the Canadian broker said that, though the stock's dividend yield of 4.7% remains attractive, they had lowered earnings forecasts for Go-Ahead's bus operations and added that near-term challenges and uncertainties for its bus and rail businesses were expected to continue.
Up at the other end of the index, gold miner Centamin was sitting pretty at the top of the index after its board unanimously rejected a £1.47bn takeover offer from Canada’s Endeavour Mining.
AJ Bell analyst Russ Mould said: "The key sticking point is likely to be price. Centamin probably has the view that its recent sluggish share price isn’t indicative of the true value of the company when taking a long-term view. Endeavour may have to rummage deeper in its pockets to see if it can find a few more nuggets to sweeten the terms of the proposed deal."
