The company said the move marked the largest increase to a repurchase authorisation in history and expected the remaining buybacks to be completed by fiscal 2028. Shares were up in premarket trade, extending a 24% gain over the past year.
CEO Jensen Huang said Nvidia was benefiting from a “once‑in‑a‑generation” shift to AI and accelerated computing, with hyperscaler capex projected to top $1.3trn by 2027. He added the group planned to double chip shipments in 2027 as demand for data‑centre infrastructure continues to surge.
“Our cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders,” he added. “This authorization reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead.”
