FTSE 250 movers: Travel issues drag on second-tier index, Cineworld gains
Travel-related issues were at the bottom of the pile on the second-tier index on Monday, as governments around the world, including the US and UK, moved to tighten restrictions on foreigners arriving from virus hot spots.
In the case of the UK, there was talk that Downing Street would require travellers to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days, as a means of enforcing quarantine rules, at their own expense.
On the back of the news, shares of SSP Group, WH Smith, Easyjet and Carnival were all lower, together with a drop in those of Meggitt.
Going the other way, stock in Cineworld topped the leaderboard as a majority of the company's shareholders backed the firm's proposed bonus scheme.
Worth noting as well, the number of daily new Covid-19 infections was still falling in the UK, having dropped by 38% over the past two weeks, according to Pantheon Macroeconomics.
More importantly, the country was now vaccinating 0.9% of its adult population every dat.
"At that pace, herd immunity will be reached by May."
