FTSE 250 movers: Hammerson heads lower; Airlines rally
London’s FTSE 250 was down 0.1% at 22,619.98 in afternoon trade on Wednesday.
Hammerson was under pressure as it emerged that the Treasury will extend the current ban on evictions for unpaid commercial rent after it delayed the lifting of lockdown in England. The ban, which prevents landlords from taking tenants with rent arrears to court, was due to end on 30 June.
Telecommunications company Helios Towers slumped after it raised around $160m in a share placing to strengthen its balance sheet and buy tower assets in new and existing markets. The group, which announced the placing late on Tuesday, said 46.75m new ordinary shares were placed at 163p each. This is a 5.3% discount to the closing share price of 172.20p a day earlier.
On the upside, budget airlines easyJet and Wizz Air flew higher, having fallen earlier in the week as it became clear that the lifting of lockdown in England would be delayed.
