FTSE 100 movers: NatWest rallies; Flutter gives back gains
London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.6% at 7,008.98 in afternoon trade on Friday.
NatWest was the standout gainer, having lost ground on Thursday after the government said it was going sell off up to 15% of its stake in the bank over the next year.
On Friday, it emerged that NatWest will take a minority stake in Permanent TSB Group as part of a potential deal to sell €7.6bn of assets to the Irish lender.
According to a statement by PTSB, the banks have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to work on an agreement that would see Permanent TSB take over much of NatWest’s Ulster Bank Ireland unit. This would include some performing mortgages and micro-SME loans, as well as the Lombard Asset Finance business and 25 Ulster Bank branches.
Telecoms operator Vodafone advanced after it reported a rise in first-quarter revenue as European and African services returned to growth.
Flutter Entertainment was the worst performer on the index, having rallied a day earlier on the back of an upgrade to ‘outperform’ from ‘sector perform’ at RBC Capital Markets.
