The FTSE 100-listed global medical technology business said the transaction continues its strategy of investing in best-in-class technologies that enhance its portfolio of digital and robotic surgical products.
While the initial priority will be the integration of Brainlab's technology into NAVIO 7.0, Smith & Nephew's next generation surgical robotics platform, the two entities will also collaborate on the development of additional applications to "enhance Smith & Nephew's digital surgery ecosystem".
Prior announcements have confirmed that the acquisition includes Brainlab's associated salesforce, which will be integrated into S&N's own robotics commercial organisation and certain other intangible assets.
However, commercial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed.
