Headon took temporary leave in September for medical treatment and was expected to be off for about three months. In November PayPoint reported a decline in first-half profit due to rising costs.
Chairman Nick Wiles, who has overseen the FTSE 250 company in Headon's absence, will continue in an executive role until a new boss is found. The board said it wished Headon the very best for the future.
PayPoint said: "The search for a new chief executive is now under way … The board would like to thank the executive team and Rachel Kentleton, finance director, in particular, for the leadership they have shown in the business during this period."
