DJ Singapore Shares Close 0.7% Lower as Travel-Related Stocks Weigh -- Market Talk
2021 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
0940 GMT - Singapore shares closed lower, with travel-related stocks declining as rising daily Covid-19 infections in the country weighed on investor sentiment. Singapore reported 837 new cases Tuesday, compared with 607 on Monday. Genting Singapore and SATS both retreated 1.3%, while Singapore Airlines fell 1.2%. Banks also declined. DBS and UOB both dropped 0.9%, while OCBC slid 0.4%. Among gainers, Singapore Exchange edged up 0.1%, helped by the upcoming launch of a depository linkage between the Singapore and Thailand exchanges, which could boost liquidity. The FTSE Straits Times Index finished the day 0.7% lower at 3058.61. ([email protected])
