ECB's Rehn sounds unusually 'dovish' note
A top European Central Bank official, whose views typically lean towards the more 'hawkish' side of the policy spectrum, sounded an unusually 'dovish' note.
Speaking at a Reuters Breakingviews event on Wednesday, ECB Governing Council member, Olli Rehn, said he would not change the monetary authority's mandate, which calls for inflation below but close to 2.0% over the medium-term, 'per se'.
However, Rehn, who was also the chief of the Bank of Finland, echoed his counterparts across the Pond, reportedly saying: "My view is that 2% is not a ceiling and inflation can deviate in both directions."
