According to Bloomberg, which cited the Swiss attorney general's office, the decision was reportedly taken in May.
It followed a complaint filed against Baar, Switzerland based commodities trader Glencore.
Nevertheless, the attorney general's office reportedly also said the probe related to raw materials and that it was not directed against either Glencore nor any specific person.
In December 2017, Public Eye, a non-governmental organisation, had filed a criminal complaint against Glencore with the attorney general's office, having also said at the time that more "intelligence" had become available from the so-called 'Paradise Papers' concerning some of the questions that it had relating to Glencore and the Katanga mine that it controlled in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
By the close of trading, shares of Glencore were 0.60% lower a 258.50p.
