The AIM-traded firm said the hydrogen for the pilot project was being produced by an electrolyser it had supplied.
It said the electrolyser used an electrical current to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
“I am delighted that this important pilot project is now operational,” said chief executive officer Dr Graham Cooley.
“The increased use of hydrogen to decarbonise heat via the gas grid will perform a critical role in helping the UK to fulfil its ambitious climate change obligations.
“Indeed, the Committee for Climate Change has indicated that the UK will need between 6GW and 17GW of electrolysis in the next 30 years to store renewable power and provide renewable heat,” Cooley added, describing HyDeploy’s pilot project as a “very significant step”.
At 1542 GMT, shares in ITM Power were up 11.85% at 79.53p.
