London’s FTSE 250 was down 0.8% at 23,906.26 in afternoon trade on Wednesday.

Car dealership Inchcape fell after a shareholder sold 7.5m shares in a placing.

Waste management company Biffa was also down despite backing its full-year expectations on Wednesday as it said trading in the first half has been in line. In an update ahead of its interim results in November, Biffa said first-half trading has continued in line with the revised expectations it set out in July.

On the upside, budget airlines easyJet and Wizz, Wagamama owner Restaurant Group and Upper Crust owner SSP all rallied.

Homewares retailer Dunelm was the top gainer after it said 2022 full-year profits would be "modestly" ahead of expectations as it posted a strong rise in 2021 earnings, driven by online sales during the Covid pandemic.
