London’s FTSE 250 was up 1% at 22,160.40 in afternoon trade on Tuesday.

Precious metals miner Hochschild was the standout gainer as gold prices rose.

Travel company Tui was also on the up following heavy losses in the previous session on worries about a rise in Covid-19 cases and the Delta variant.

Transact owner IntegraFin rallied as it reported a rise in third-quarter funds under direction amid positive equity markets.

In the quarter ended 30 June, funds under direction rose 7.2% over the previous quarter to £50.3bn. Over the same period, the FTSE All Share Index increased 4.8% and the MSCI World Index (Large & Mid Cap) pushed up 7.2%.

On the downside, Spire Healthcare was weaker again after the private hospital group’s shareholders voted down its £1.4bn acquisition by Australia’s Ramsay Health Care. On Monday, total votes in favour of the deal were 69.88% at the General meeting and 72.07% at the Court Meeting, coming in below the 75% acceptance threshold.
