London’s FTSE 250 was up 0.2% at 22,679.11 in afternoon trade on Thursday.

Shopping centre owner Hammerson surged to the top of the index after it launched a €700m sustainability-linked bond.

Meggitt rallied after Airbus said it was ramping up aircraft production as the aviation sector begins to recover.

Savills was also on the front foot after it said one of its subsidiaries has entered into an agreement to form a strategic investment alliance with Samsung Life, the leading life insurer in Korea, and its real estate asset management subsidiary Samsung SRA.

On the downside, gold miner Centamin lost its shine after an initiation at ‘sell’ by Liberum.

The broker said: "A strong balance sheet provides the ability to pay for this turnaround while maintaining dividend payments, we argue. However, the current share price is 30% higher than our valuation, so despite the prospect of potentially transformational West African upside, we initiate with a sell rating."

Tate & Lyle was also weaker even as it posted a 6% rise in adjusted annual profits, driven by double-digit growth in its food and beverage division.
