FTSE 250 movers: Funding Circle gains after results; TI Fluids flows lower

London's FTSE 250 was up 0.8% at 19,099.63 in afternoon trade on Thursday.

Lending platform Funding Circle was the standout gainer as it said its first-half loss had widened but reiterated its guidance for the full year.

In the six months to the end of June, the company made an EBITDA loss of £19.7m compared to a £13.9m loss in the same period a year ago, while pre-tax losses widened to £30.8m from £27.1m. Group revenue rose 29% to £81.4m.

The group had already warned last month that economic uncertainty had reduced demand for loans from small business and led it to proactively tighten its lending criteria.

On the downside, TI Fluid Systems was on the back foot as it reported a drop in interim profit and revenue and said global light vehicle production volumes remain "challenging".

Insurer Hastings Group slumped as it said interim adjusted operating profit fell to £59.7m from £105.1m in the same period a year ago, impacted by the recent Ogden rate change.

Bellway fell as the housebuilder said full-year pre-tax profit was expected to be in line with current market expectations as it built a record number of new homes, but cautioned that the operating margin was set to moderate further.

Savills was weaker after the estate agent said first-half pre-tax profit declined to £24.7m from £26.7m in H1 2018 as it took a hit from Brexit woes and the trade spat between the US and China.

Greene King and PZ Cussons lost ground as their stock went ex-dividend.
