London's mid-cap index was led higher by a number of strong earnings.

The FTSE 250 was up 0.54% at 17,481.96 by 15:50 on Wednesday.

Despite lower property sales revenue and higher costs sending first-half profits tumbling at Foxtons Group shares in the London-focused estate agency surged. The group said it expected to meet its annual targets and was confident of delivering a strong performance in the second half of the year.

Shares in Man Group climbed as the hedge fund manager beat analysts’ expectations with earnings per share of 13.9 cents for the first half of 2015, up 95%.

Sausage rolls and steak bake specialist Greggs wafted higher as it reported strong first-half results on the back of its products and stores investments.

Metrology and engineering group Renishaw was lifted by rising profits and revenue thanks to a number of large orders.

Indivior, the drug addiction specialist divested from Reckitt Benckiser, spiked after hiking guidance as it holds off the expected attack from generic drugs in what was a solid first half.

Going the wrong way, was Premier Farnell, which tumbled after a profit warning.

Tullow Oil was another big faller as, despite its first-half loss narrowing, the board scrapped the dividend due to lower oil prices.
