FTSE 250 movers: Electrocomponents surges but Paragon slides on results miss

London's FTSE 250 was down 0.1% to 21,001.30 in afternoon trade on Thursday.

Electrocomponents surgedafter it reported a 35% jump in full-year adjusted pre-tax profit and announced the acquisition of IESA for £88m.

Tate & Lyle rallied after saying its full-year profits rose by nearly a quarter, although sales slipped.

Renewi shot higher after the waste-to-product company reported a doubling of full-year pre-tax profit and said its full-year performance was slightly ahead of upgraded expectations thanks in part to a solid performance from its commercial division.

In the year to the end of March, reported underlying pre-tax profit doubled to £51.5m, with revenue up 9% to £1.6bn and underlying earnings before interest and taxes 30% higher at £69.1m.

Budget airline Wizz Air flew higher after it said annual profit rose 22% and passenger numbers grew 25%,

QinetiQ was on the rise after saying its annual profit rose 5% as the defence technology contractor increased revenue and gained more than £8m of one-off items.

Going the other way, Paragon Banking Group was under the cosh after its first-half numbers missed expectations, while brick maker Ibstock lost ground as it said the start of its financial year was slower than expected as it took a hit from extreme late-winter weather.

Private healthcare provider Spire Healthcare was in the red as it said it remained confident of hitting full-year targets even though market conditions throughout the start of its trading year were challenging.
