The FTSE 250 was up 0.21% in afternoon trading on Tuesday ahead of a key evening for European indices with a speech from Catalan president Carles Puigdemont top of the agenda.

Domino’s Pizza burned higher by more than 11% in the index after a third-quarter trading update which showed a 21% rise in sales for the period.

The fast food group was easily the best performer on the 250, while Marston’s was among the top gainers after the pub operator showed an increase in full-year sales, despite disappointing summer numbers. Also in the pub sector, Greene King fizzed higher.

Capita also found itself at the top end of the board after its appointment of former Amec Foster Wheeler boss Jon Lewis as CEO.

At the other end of the table, Pets at Home whimpered lower following news that KKR sold its 12% stake in the company. In afternoon trading, the firm's shares were down around 9%.

Provident Financial Group saw its losses extended on Tuesday, adding to a rotten run that has saw the sub-prime lender lose more than 70% of its value in the year-to-date.

Ted Baker also fell significantly after reporting its first-half revenue and profit, with investors showing scant conviction even after the company posted an 18% jump in pre-tax profits.
