London’s FTSE 100 was down 1% at 6,629.47 in afternoon trade on Monday.

Shares with exposure to the travel and leisure sectors, which have been hit by the pandemic, were weaker. British Airways parent IAG, GKN owner Melrose, caterer Compass and engine maker Rolls-Royce all fell.

On the upside, dollar-earners were on the rise as sterling lost ground against the greenback, with consumer goods giant Reckitt and pharmaceutical firms AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline higher.

Online supermarket Ocado - which has benefited from Covid-related lockdowns and restrictions - was also on the rise amid the prospect of a prolonged lockdown.
