London’s FTSE 100 was up 0.3% at 7,584.48 in afternoon trade on Friday.

Tech-heavy Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust was the standout gainer on the index, while Asia-focused insurer Prudential also gained.

On the downside, Harbour Energy, SSE and National Grid were all lower after the government announced a £5bn windfall tax on oil and gas producers on Thursday.

BP was also in the red as the oil giant said it would review its North Sea investments following news of the windfall tax.
