FTSE 100 movers: Evraz falls; WPP bounces back
London's FTSE 100 was down 0.6% at 7,206.74 in afternoon trade on Monday amid worries about Brexit and Sino-US trade relations.
Russian steelmaker Evraz was on the back foot as iron prices fell.
Lloyds Banking Group was also weaker after sharp gains on Friday, while miner Anglo American retreated following disappointing Chinese trade data.
On the upside, advertising giant WPP was the standout gainer, having slumped on Friday after a sales warning from French peer Publicis.
Polymetal and Fresnillo were both in the green as RBC Capital Markets reiterated its preference for the former over the latter in a note on precious metals miners.
"We reiterate our sector perform rating on Fresnillo today seeing a slower than expected operational recovery, risks to reserve grades and medium term production outlook. Whilst there is not a lot of absolute downside to our target price, we do think shares will underperform precious metal peers and in particular Polymetal where we maintain our outperform rating and 1,400p target price.
"Whilst there has been some re-rating of the whole sector, including POLY in recent months, we see further upside as the group's management delivers its growth in parallel with returns and gains increased investor exposure thanks to its FTSE100 inclusion. We would note POLY also has a higher free float and liquidity than FRES, something that may appeal to new investors in the space."
Aerospace and defence group Rolls-Royce was trading up as Investec upped its stance on the stock to 'hold' from 'sell'.
