Lord Sugar quits "anti-enterprise" Labour party

Lord Sugar has quit the Labour party citing its "negative business policies and the general anti-enterprise concepts" as the reason behind his decision.

The Apprentice host, who was appointed a peer in 2009 under the previous Labour administration, said he had lost confidence in the party but that had opted to adopt a low profile to avoid undermining the Ed Miliband’s campaign.

"In the past year I found myself losing confidence in the party due to their negative business policies and the general anti-enterprise concepts they were considering if they were to be elected,” he said in a statement released on Monday.

"I expressed this to the most senior figures in the party several times."

The former Tottenham Hotspur chairman added he would continue to represent the interest of UK businesses in the House of Lords.

“I have no wish to stick the boot into the party,” he said.

“There are many good people in Labour working hard every day to serve the public and I wish them all the best of luck. I am grateful for all the experiences being a member of Labour has brought me.

“I intend to continue in the House of Lords, representing the interests of business and enterprise in the UK. “
