Clothing retailer M&Co will close all 170 of its stores after falling into administration back in December, resulting in the loss of as many as 1,900 jobs.

M&Co, which was bought out by AK Retail, has already shuttered a number of the stores, with more set to cease trading throughout the course of the week.

M&Co said: "Unfortunately we haven't received the news we would have hoped for during our administration period, and would like to share this news with you."

The Scottish company stated that as it failed to receive any funded, deliverable offers that would result in the transfer of its stores or staff to a potential buyer, all of its stores would now close.

"The M&Co 'brand' has been purchased, but unfortunately this does not include a future for our stores, website, or staff," it added.
