Xaar, which supplies industrial inkjet printheads, announced an investment in 3D printing through the establishment of staff and facilities in Nottingham and Copenhagen.

Xaar will open a 3D Centre in Nottingham in January to deliver printing services and equipment to original equipment makers, material suppliers and end users.

The company has also expanded through the acquisition of an experienced group of engineers working in Copenhagen.

The Copenhagen team will provide design and process development expertise to help the company’s partners commercialise equipment, enhancing Xaar's ability to secure further revenues in this fast growing sector.

Director Professor Neil Hopkinson said: "I am delighted to confirm our investment in The Xaar 3D Centre in Nottingham and the expansion of our team. As we build our business in 3D it is vital that we have the in-house resources to support our partners. The acquisition of the team in Denmark further extends our expertise.”

Chief executive officer Doug Edwards said: “Our investments in Nottingham and Copenhagen will significantly expand our capability in this sector, helping us to achieve our growth plans.”

At 1005 GMT, Xaar shares were down 1.3% to 431.50p.
