European low-cost airline Wizz Air saw capacity and passenger numbers increase in July as the group continued to grow its network and improve its customer offering.

Wizz Air's capacity increased 11.4% year-on-year to 4.05m, while passenger numbers grew 11.7% to 3.88m. Load factor improved from 95.4% to 95.6%

The FTSE 250-listed outfit's fleet expansion continued during July with the delivery of a brand new Airbus 321neo aircraft, taking its fleet to 115.

Wizz also announced its first-ever flights from London Luton to Moscow and St Petersburg, set to start in October, while the group also continued its base expansion with the allocation of a third aircraft to its Chisinau base in Moldova - adding four new routes to Larnaca, Turin, Prague and Doncaster/Sheffield in the process.

The group also highlighted that it had Wizz Air continued to operate at the lowest CO2 emissions per passenger/km amongst all competitor airlines, coming in 2.1% lower than the same month a year earlier at 56.8 grams per passenger/km.

As of 0845 BST, Wizz Air shares had ticked up 0.56% to 3,570p.
