Weir Group has named Sean Fitzgerald president of its ESCO unit, the engineering group confirmed on Tuesday.

Fitzgerald will join Weir from AP Moeller-Maersk, where he has been chief executive of Maersk Container Industry, the logistics giant’s container manufacturing business, since 2018.

He is replacing Andrew Neilson, who will become president of Weir’s minerals division following the retirement of current incumbent Ricardo Garib at the end of this year.

Joe Stanton, Weir chief executive, said: "Sean will be a great addition to the team. With his strong background across manufacturing, mining and technology, I am confident he will take ESCO to next stage of growth."

Fitzgerald - who is American - will take up the US-based role in December, relocating from his current base in Copenhagen, Demark.

Weir acquired ESCO, which designs and manufactures mission-critical equipment used in mining and infrastructure, in 2018 in a $1.29bn deal.
