Shares in Vela Technologies jumped on Monday after it announced its Portr has secured a contract to operate its transfer service AirPortr at London Gatwik Airport.

The investment company expects AirPortr to become fully-operational at Gatwick's North Terminal by December, after the completion of the terminal's reconfiguration and refurbishment.

The service enables passengers to book luggage transfers between the airport and their pick-up points or destinations.

As a result, Vela said the agreement will provide direct access to 32% of London's non-transferring traffic.

Portr's chief executive Randel Darby said the agreement, the first with a major international airport, will enable the group to grow its user-base.

Vela's executive director Antony Laiker said: "We look forward to Portr continuing with its expansion, aided by the 100% delivery record and the credibility of this long-term agreement.

"We had previously indicated to shareholders that Portr would be expanding into other London airports and we have no reason to believe that this might not be the case."

Shares rose 14.55% to 0.189p on Monday at 13:57.
