Ultra Electronics picks up delayed drone surveillance contract

Ultra Electronics has won a $18.4m electronic warfare equipment contract for drone aircraft, which had been delayed from the last financial year.

Montreal subsidiary Ultra TCS picked up the contract, from an unnamed customer 'in a NATO country', to provide electronic warfare equipment and engineering support for the delivery of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to be used in surveillance missions.

Chief executive Rakesh Sharma said the contract was "one of the opportunities that moved from last year to this".

"This is a significant opportunity and demonstrates Ultra's established ability to supply and support EW systems combining capabilities between TCS and the recently acquired Herley businesses."

Ultra TCS will provide a variant of its ALR-510 Elint (electronic intelligence) system, systems engineering, installation and test support, together with a radar threat simulator for use in the ground support centre and a flight-line go/no go tester.

The Elint system will be used aboard the UAV and controlled from a ground support center using Ultra TCS' Talon software.
