Trainline reported a jump in sales for the first nine months of the year and said it was on track to meet its full-year expectations.

In the nine months to 30 November, net ticket sales rose 18% from the same period a year ago to £2.9bn, taking total group revenue up 26% to £198m. UK consumer revenue increased 31% to £133m, while international revenue surged 90% to £20m.

UK consumer net ticket sales rose 24%, which Trainline said reflected "strong" mobile demand driven by increasing e-ticket availability and adoption by customers. International net ticket sales were 49% higher as new customer acquisition continued to underpin growth, partly offset by the impact of strike action in France in the most recent quarter.

The performance of the business travel segment was less impressive, with net ticket sales up just 2%.

Trainline backed its expectations for full-year group net ticket sales growth in the high teens and group revenue growth in the low to mid-20% range.

Chief executive officer Clare Gilmartin said: "We continued to deliver strong growth in the third quarter of the financial year while we focus on our mission to make rail and coach travel easier for customers worldwide, encouraging a much greener way to travel.

"We are on track to deliver our plans for the full year and will continue to invest both in the UK and internationally to deliver the significant growth opportunities for Trainline in the year ahead."
