Strategic Minerals appoints coal veteran Alan Broome as new chairman

Strategic Minerals appointed mining veteran Alan Broome as its new chairman, to drive the diversified mineral development and production company's growth strategy forward.

Broone has worked in coal and other resource management for over 40 years and is currently chairman of ASX listed company New Age Exploration, as well as CRL Energy and Nuenz. Formerly, he served as director of the New Zealand state-owned coal miner Solid Energy.

“Not only does Alan bring with him broad mining industry experience and corporate governance skills but he has demonstrated an in depth understanding of the New Zealand coal market and his network of contacts has already assisted the company in relation to planned operations, regulators and opened dialogue with likely customers at a senior level,” said managing director John Peters.

Meanwhile, non-executive merger and acquisitions specialist Michael Wong will stand down on 2 July, to focus on the increased workload of his investment banking business in Australia ans Asia.

As of 0945 BST, Strategic Minerals was trading 3.6% lower at 0.5p.
