Sportech has signed a deal with Connecticut Lottery Corporation that will allow the UK company to enter the state's retail sports betting market.

The 10-year contract with CLC and its sports book provider, Rush Street Interactive, will allow Sportech to offer sports betting across its retail sites and will promote CLC's online and mobile channel.

After the Supreme Court legalised sports betting in 2018 Sportech applied for a sports betting licence in Connecticut where it has a tote betting licence. After its application was turned down earlier in 2021 the company began talking to potential partners that did gain a licence, including CLC.

Richard McGuire, Sportech's chief executive, said: "Our customers have been demanding sports betting for many years and we are delighted to be part of the CLC team, bringing our proven locations, expertise and licensed betting professionals to support CLC in delivering an exciting sports betting product."

Sportech shares rose 2.9% to 36p at 08:15 BST. The company said the deal was subject to regulatory approval.
